Core Values of Faith

The members of First Baptist Church stand firmly on the foundational premise that Jesus Christ is Lord. As God who became flesh and dwelt among us, Jesus Christ lived a perfect human life, died on the cross to forgive the sins of mankind, and rose from the dead to live forever victorious over sin and death. By grace, He offers forgiveness of sin and eternity in heaven to anyone who will believe in Him and ask Him to be Savior. Once a person places faith in Jesus, the resurrected Lord provides His Holy Spirit within each believer that we might experience abundant life characterized by love, joy, and peace.

We believe that we have a mandate from the Lord to share that love, joy, and peace with the world. We are intentional about helping with personal needs, as well as sharing the plan of God for eternal salvation through Christ. Every individual is created in the image of God, and therefore is worthy of compassionate attention from God’s people.

We believe that Jesus wants the entire world to experience His salvation, so our ministry focus is not only local, but national and international. Through prayer support, financial gifts, and on-site participation, we are involved in helping people and sharing Jesus throughout the world. The compassion of Christ obligates us to any need anywhere.

We are convinced that there will come a day in the future when Jesus Christ will return to earth to fulfill and culminate His will for mankind. Evil will be defeated and destroyed, and believers in Jesus Christ will live forever in the presence of God.

As a church, we are intentional about honoring God in our corporate worship. We believe that Christian education is essential to our relationship with Christ. We are committed to being a beacon of Christ’s light in the Sweetwater community, and we willingly work together with other churches to proclaim Christ’s truth and offer Christ’s grace.
